Can't advertise just burn money? Google Releases New Google Ads Retail Category Report!
The new Google Ads Retail Category Report allows retailers to see the performance of product categories in search and shopping campaigns.
Retail category reports allow you to view the performance of predefined product categories in search and shopping campaigns in a report. Some of the metrics available for each retail category include:
· Traffic and expense metrics (clicks and expenses)
· Ad campaign level information (ad campaign type and name)
· Performance metrics (conversions, conversion value, conversion costs)
· Competitive metrics (click share)
Create a new custom report in the Sports tab of Google Ads. The quickest way to start building retail category reports is to enter "retail" in the report generator's search bar.
There are 5 levels in the product category, each of which is more detailed than the next level. You can add any level or stack level in the Rows section. Then add "Campaign type" so that you can see the effect through search and shopping, and add the metrics you want to analyze in the column section. Of course, you can also add other dimensions, including campaign names and campaign subs types, that will show you the performance of your Smart Shopping campaign.
It is important to examine all factors that may cause differences in performance between search and shopping campaigns, such as:
· Brand and non-brand campaigns
· Campaigns for best sellers or specific products in shopping campaigns
· Location targeting or ad serving time
· Audience targeting
· Different bid strategies
For example, your return on ad spend (ROAS) for all of your Shirts and Tops campaigns might indicate that the return on ad spend for search campaigns is higher than for shopping campaigns. However, if you filter for brand search campaigns, the return on ad investments for the two campaigns may be more similar.
Sellers can get more advertising results by reviewing which retail categories are performing well before considering shifting their budgets to those categories.
